Just recently, I have read that Sky Cable will now offer High Definition or HD broadcasting in Metro Manila. Wow! that sounds to be a very good news.

The new service is now available to its subscribers in Metro Manila in areas that are digital-ready. SkyCable officials revealed that about 90 percent of the metropolis is digital-ready. The company has around 100,000 subscribers in Metro Manila, of which around 40 percent are already using the digital platform.

Cignal Digital TV, a new player in town is also looking to get a share of HD broadcasting here in the Philippines. This service is set to be available this coming June 2009. Cignal Digital TV is a new service provided by MediaQuest.

Subscribing to Cignal Digital TV costs a one-time cash-out of P5,500, inclusive of the installation fee and the hardware such as the dish antenna, remote control, and the set top box. Cignal subscribers will have crystal-clear access to free-to-air channels ABS-CBN 2, TV5, NBN 4, GMA, CS9, QTV, IBC 13, Studio 23, 2nd Avenue, ETC, and NET 25, and high-rating premium channels HBO, Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, CNN, PBO, Viva Cinema, AXN, BIO, and RHTV (dzRH Television).

The price for all these channels — Php390/month. There’s a Php5,500 installation fee and a one-year lock-up period.
