What the hell am I talking about? Honestly, I don’t know the right word to say hehe. But what I mean is, we used to have our own domained e-mail right? Like for example admin[at]nusingcrib[dot]com (our e-mail in our nusingcrib.com website). It is used to be hosted in your web hosting account right? I didn’t setup my domained e-mail (if that is the right term) before because of spams. Yeah, we all know how troublesome a spam mail is and if you’re hosting account is very limited then it could mean a big trouble.

One thing I came across is this Google Apps. It was only yesterday that I found out that Gmail can actually host your own domained e-mail. We’ll that’s good news!

I love gmail because it was fast, secure and an absolute spam assassin.There is no reason why not to use gmail for e-mails.

Here’s how you can do it in 8 easy steps:

1. Go to http://www.google.com/a/
2. Click on the blue button at the upper right hand where it says, “Compare Editions and sign-up”
3. Sing-up for the standard edition, It’s FREE.
4. Choose “Administrator: I own and control this domain” and enter your own domain.
5. Fill-up all the necessary informations and choose your desired email like, admin@yourowndomain.com.
6. Verify the domain ownership by either uploading an HTML file or adding a CNAME value in your cPanel.
7. Log-in to your cPanel, go to MX records under email. Delete any MX records that you might have and add a new entry for Gmail. The MX record for Gmail is ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. (if you previously use your hosting account for your e-mail, consult them first on how to successfully migrate the email hosting to google).
8. Wait for at least 1-2 hrs for the propagation and that’s it!

You can now access you own personal domained email in google by going to this address, http://mail.google.com/a/yourdomain.com. In my case for simplicity purposes, I created a sub-domain like http://mail.nursingcrib.com and have it re-directed to http://mail.google.com/a/nursingcrib.com. Now that’s more personal. You can even replace the default gmail logo for total ownership of the webmail. Isn’t nice that your domained e-mail to be powered by google?
