Deep Freeze is Better than Anti-Virus/Security Softwares
For me, I will rather install Deep Freeze in my computer rather than having three or four security softwares. Why? Hmm wait, you haven’t heard of Deep Freeze? Let’s define it first.
What is Deep Freeze?
Deep Freeze instantly protects and preserves baseline computer configurations. No matter what changes a user makes to a workstation, simply RESTART to eradicate all changes and reset the computer to its ORIGINAL state - right down to the last byte. Expensive computer assets are kept running at 100% capacity and technical support time is reduced or eliminated completely. The result is consistent trouble-free computing on a truly protected and parallel network, completely free of harmful viruses and unwanted programs.
Definition is taken from Faronics.com. Those keywords that are highlighted are 100% TRUE. Running an internet cafe business is a very tedious and time consuming work. Just imagine having a computer shop and that is being used by hundreds of your customers for almost everyday, do you think that your computers will be safe from viruses and spy wares? I don’t think so. I believe most of you will still rely to your good old and ever trusted security program to do the trick.
Ooops!, don’t get me wrong. Having anti-virus/anti-spy wares are essential BUT what I don’t like with these softwares are:
- The time consumed. For your computer to be a virus free, you have to run the software occasionally or in every virus definition update. How long does it usually takes to scan the entire computer?
- It eat a lot of resources. Norton and Mcafee are some of the culprits why you’re computer is acting slow most of the time. At start-up, it uses nearly 10-20% of your system’s computing power.
- Needs a virus definition, every time. What if you don’t have an internet connection and you have been infected with a newer breed of virus?
- Are all viruses and spy wares being cleaned by your security software? I always encounter viruses that can’t be quarantined nor deleted.
Those were some of the factors why I decided to abandon the use of anti-virus and anti-spy ware. With deep freeze, you don’t have to worry at all. No more scanning, no more virus definition update, it doesn’t eat too much resources and most importantly it saves you a LOT of time. A simple RESTART brings back your computer to a 100% working condition. Thank God we’re using it in our internet cafe. I don’t have to sacrifice my time to troubleshoot. I wonder what security software does the Inner Child Computer System have? How bout you fellas, are you using Deep Freeze as well? Share your thoughts.

What you said is so true.. antivirus/antispam and other security software really take up a big part of CPU power plus memory…
What inner child is using right now is Trend Micro’s (free) Office scan.. (which reminds me the trial version is set to expire on the 22nd!)
There’s this hardware based that does the same thing as what you said here.. kalimutan ko lang.. but it costs a lot…

Its true that AV and other security are memory hogs but not all some are built from the groundup that takes less memory.
Deepfreeze and other non-restrictive software is better combine with anti-virus. How would you know if you encounter a virus even though Deepfreeze is powerful there are some viruses that infects using direct I/O meaning it bypasses deepfreeze but detected by most of anti-virus so to sum it all it is better to have both.

naka deep freeze ako pero nadali parin ako ng virus diko alam kng bakit..ayaw matangal….kaya bumalik ako sa antivirus kahit alam kng malakas sa memory…

i am using deep freeze in my computers here sa bahay. Deep freeze is not a free software. Kailangan mong bilhin to online. Pero kung gusto mo makamura, bumili ka na lang sa mga cafes na meron nito kaso piracy na yan.
tama si jun, dito sa amin naka deepfreeze din ang mga computers, pero may time na biglang nag kakaproblema ang isa sa mga computers, bigla na lang mag reboot ang computer then di na makaka access sa windows, reboot na lang ng reboot. yun pala may nacorrupt na sa system32 ewan ano yun, so kailangan installan uli ng os, mag wa 1 year na ang cafe dito siguro 5 times kaming nag kaproblema ng ganon. pero deepfreeze astig pa rin talaga kahit ganun, minimal lang ang nagiging problema kumpara sa mga hinde naka deepfreeze na computers. saka may free download naman ng deepfreeze sa internet. kaya kayo wag tatamad tamad, mag deepfreeze na rin. thanks nga pala kay Eds and Mayo mga technicians sila nagrecommend sa akin ng deepfreeze.
wala akong masabi sa deep freeze ok talaga sya kahit anong gawin ng customer,100% orig config p din pag restart pero may noob question lng ako sana matulungan nyo ako, pano kung may game ako na rpg like GTA at iba pa na gusto din naman magsave ng players ng progress nila pano ko gagawin na makapag save naman sa my documents yung gta? kasi GTA ang default nya mag save sa my docs talaga di ko na mabago directory. mahirap kasi pag kukunin ko pa save files every time meron gusto mag save , meron din ba sa inyo problem na ganito? help pls thanks
wala bang option ang GTA to save in a different directory? I haven’t played GTA e. Yung mga ng uupdate ko na online games, sa ibang partition ko nilalagay.

I’ve been using deep freeze for 4 years now. It really saves me time, effort, money and even prolong the mortality rate of my hardware.I use this in my net cafe shop….. don’t worry about the game patches, you actually install games to a different drive and folder and hide it or just simply use its function “Boot Thawed” pag sinipag kayo everytime there is an update.

tama ka. pede mag ka virus yung partition na yun pero safe nman ang operating system mo. stability wise, panalo ka pa rin. And besides di naman gaano na iinfect ng virus ang mga na uupdate na games.
