This is for their DNS propagation for the domain dreamhosters.com which I will explain later on, so make sure you have a couple of hours to spare.

How to Transfer your WordPress blog to Dreamhost using dreamhosters subdomain:

First, get an account with dreamhost. Sign-up here.

As soon as you have your account activated, login to dreamhost control panel. http://panel.dreamhost.com.

On the left side of your control panel, click on Manage Domains and then click on Add New Domain.

Add your website, yourowndomain.com and fill up all the necessary information for your website. Such as WWW or non-www, User, Files and Paths etc… and then click the button that says Fully Host this Domain.

At this point we will be adding a dreamhosters account. This is what dreamhost uses instead of an IP address for your site. That’s why we need at least 4-5 hours for DNS propagation. Crazy isn’t? Anyway…

Once again click on Manage Domains but this time scroll down until you find the Mirrored field.

Under Create a mirror at: I suggest to use your own domain for dreamhsoters. E.g. yourowndomain.dreamhosters.com and on the Mirror this site field choose your own domain you setup a while ago and then click on Mirror this domain.

Now let’s create the Database. On the left side of your dreamhost control panel under Toolbox, locate MySQL databases. Scroll all the way to the bottom till you find Create a new MySQL database.

Database name can be anything you want but under use hostname field, choose create a new hostname. I suggest to use mysql.yourowndoamin.dreamhosters.com. Finally create a user for that SQL and click the Add new database now.

You can then proceed by moving your files via ftp to sae time while waiting for the propagation. Just edit the wp-config.php to the values we set a while ago under MySQL.

After 5 hours, whew. You can now access mysql,yourowndoamin.dreamhosters.com and log in using the SQL user you created. From there, you can now import your own wordpress database.

Check your site by going to yourowndomain.dreamhosters.com. If your site shows up then it’s about time to flip the switch of your name servers.

That’s all. Hope this help you transfer your wordpress blog to dreamhost.

The Pros and Cons of Webhosting: HostPapa

Hosting

HostPapa

HostPapa Review

Web Hosting Review

Media Temple for Dreamhost. It just so happen that my co-blogger Jehz, shared a very valuable info on how to get a 2 year free of webhosting plus domain via Dreamhost. I saw this opportunity after reading it on my Google reader and wasted no time to sign-up for Dreamhost. After 10 minutes, I already have a savings of $204. Yebah!

Now what am I gonna do with my new hosting? I don’t know yet. But for those people who would like to know on how you can avail the promo of Dreamhost, I suggest to read the blog’s of Jehz and Miguel and be a subscriber of them too.

Dreamhost – Webhosting.

Dreamhost has been online for I would say 10 years already and the growth that they have had was simply remarkable. I had an opportunity before to sign-up for Dreamhost instead of Bluehost but I did not pushed through. It was simply because of pure bad timing when the news broke out. Those were the times when Dreamhost mistakenly bills customers for multiple years coupled with numerous downtimes from known blogs before. That’s the reason my friend why I ended up with Bluehost.

But what really is with Dreamhost that makes people sign-up despite of those negativity against them?

The usual shared hosting feature:

Unlimited bandwidth

Unlimited domains

Unlimited storage

Free Domain

Free domain Whois privacy

Dreamhost’s Good Side: The Pros.

Known to have a lot of promos, coupons and discounts. This I believe has been their trademark. I have yet to know a webhosting company that offers special discount for webhosting almost every month.

One click installers including WordPress. This I would say is a must.

Phone support is great if you live in the US.

You can re-sell server space. You can set up websites for your customers and charge them for the hosting that you purchase from Dreamhost.

Competitive pricing.

Dreamhost’s Good Side: The Cons.

No chat support. I still don’t like the email ticketing system. That’s my take.

Prone to downtimes. This could be in relation to the shear number of promos and discounts that they offer. Maybe they can’t handle the volume?

Custom control panel. I’m just used to using Cpanel which I really found newbie-friendly.

Blogging wise? I would say that Dreamhost could be a good choice but if you intend to run a business, get probably a VPS or a dedicated server.

To know more about Dreamhost, visit <a
